On the night of July 13th, we boarded our plane bound for Seattle. Luckily, Jake fell asleep almost instantly and stayed asleep until we began our descent. He then pointed out all the sights as we headed in to Seattle. The girls as usual were great travelers. The kids and I stayed at the USO while Steve went to get the van that we had shipped. By 1100, we were on the open road. We stopped in Kittitas to hit a rest stop and take some pics of the under-construction windmill farm.
Alaina also caught her first sighting of wildlife...three chipmunks and two mice. ("It was so cool, mom!" Pretty obvious to the casual observer that Hawaii is pretty devoid of wildlife) Along the way to Spokane, we found out that Grant County is the largest potato producing county in the US...what's up with that Idaho?? Spokane, through our weary eyes, seems to be a neat city quite literally in the middle of nothing. When we were 15 miles out, Steve thought I was teasing him when I said we would be there in 15 mins. On to Kalispell, MT today.

Oh Washington! I miss it! I used to live in Ellensburg (and Yakima) and my brother lives in Moses Lake-which I'm sure you noticed...that is unless you blinked! We will be at Flathead Lake in Montana on Tuesday. Guess we just missed ya! BTW, Kalispell? What road are you taking? You're not on I-90? Are you doing HWY 2? So glad you are updating us along the way. Oh how I miss road trips...
